HeatShield® Can Make Your Flue Liner Like New Again
The design and condition of your flue liner largely determines whether or not your chimney performs properly and stands up to the abuse it’s under, both inside and out. A properly functioning flue liner will help encourage draft, making your chimney more able to efficiently vent the harmful byproducts of combustion. At the same time, it will protect your chimney masonry — and the building materials in your home behind that masonry — from the extreme heat of your fire. A strong flue liner makes a chimney safer, more effective, more resilient and more durable.
With all that said, the effects of a damaged flue liner probably seem obvious — cracks, gaps or other kinds of damage leave your masonry and combustible building materials less protected, and noticeably lessen your chimney’s overall performance. Simply put, a chimney with a damaged flue liner is a far less effective and a far more dangerous chimney.
Relining Isn’t Your Only Option
If the Chimney Care Company finds that your chimney liner is damaged, relining is one option — we often replace damaged liners with durable stainless steel liners. But that isn’t your only option.
We also regularly install HeatShield® ceramic refractory sealant systems to repair and restore damaged clay tile liners. HeatShield® systems are designed to effectively repair imperfections and stand up to the high heat in your chimney through years and years of use.
Different HeatShield® Systems For Different Needs
Depending on the type of damage the Chimney Care Company’s technicians find in your flue liner, we may recommend one of several different HeatShield® Systems.
Joints are generally the first places we see damage in clay tile liners, whether those joints have cracked, receded or degraded. If your damage is centered around joints, HeatShield®’s Joint Repair System can be an ideal choice. With a specially-designed applicator, we can fill in gaps or voids with HeatShield® material, repairing the damage. Once those spot repairs are made, we’ll also video scan the entire flue to ensure a completely repaired, smooth and smoke-tight flue.
Cracked Tiles And Other Tile Damage
If joints aren’t the only issue, more extensive repairs will be needed, and HeatShield®’s Resurfacing System is likely a more effective choice. With this system, Chimney Care Company technicians cover the entire flue with a layer of HeatShield® sealant material. Once completed, you have a flue that’s as good as new — and we video scan the chimney to ensure it.
HeatShield® has a highly effective relining product called the CeCure Sleeve Relining System, as well. The techs at the Chimney Care Company can talk with you about the state of your flue liner and your various options, so that you can make the best choice for your chimney and your home.
